Lima is the capital city of Peru as well as its largest city and important. It is located in the central coast of Peru, on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, in river valleys Chillón, Rímac and Lurin. It forms a continuous urban area with the port of Callao.
It was founded by Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro on January 18, 1535, as the City of Kings. It was the capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru during the Spanish regime after independence and became the capital of Peru. At present about 26.6% of Peruvians live in its metropolitan area, approximately 8,447,260 inhabitants, and the clustering Lima-Callao, reaching a population of approximately 9.3 million inhabitants.
The city had initially called Ciudad de los Reyes, however, persisted over time the original name of the zone, which would come either language aymara, (limaq-lime, yellow flower) or quechua (rimaq, talkative or which speaks; limaq in quechua coastal range in which the "r" sounded like "l"). The denomination would not talkative noise produced by the Rio Rímac as popularly se cree, but in truth that was the oracle spoke preinca installed in what is now fencing off the city, specifically as the Spaniards identified as the huaca Santa Ana, where he was later lifted and the hospital of the same name.
Lima is located on the Pacific coast in central Peru. Although it was originally founded on the Rímac river valley, now extends over vast desert areas and even on other valleys, so that some people consider it the largest city in the world, a desert, after Cairo. It is located at an altitude of 101 meters, with a temperature ranging from 12 degrees in winter and 28 degrees in summer, making it a coastal city relatively temperate climate, since it has a relative humidity ranging between 80-100% over all year, which makes the stations will become more sensitive, especially the cold season.
Along the coast from 50 km north of the Pan American, at the height of Ancon district on the border with the province of Huaral, until Pucusana district at the height of 70 km south of Pan American on the edge of the province Cañete. What makes an area of just over 130 km of coastline and beaches.
