Arequipa
The Peruvian city of Arequipa is the capital of the region of Arequipa, located in the province of Arequipa, is located in the extreme south-west of Peru at an altitude of 2,325 meters, the city is in a fertile valley in the middle of a desert area in the western part of the Andes and the country is known as The White City.
It is regarded by government agencies and major institutions as the country's second largest city in Peru after Lima, and is also the second most industrialized city in the country after the shaft Lima-Callao.
The city today also has industrial zones, preserved in its historic centre virreinales splendid houses and temples in Baroque style, residential areas, as well as a financial centre and extensive recreation areas.
Its territory is rugged and is characterized by thick layers of volcanic lava that covered large areas of their sector interandino. Presents such as deep canyons formed by the rivers and Ocoña Majes, who oppose average altitude plateaus as La Joya and other high altitude such as the Pampa de Arrieros and those that spread over areas of Chivay, Huambo and Pichucolla. There are also volcanic cones that emerge over the plateau glaciers formed as Misti, Chachani, Ampato, Mismi, and Solimano Coropuna. In opposition to these high peaks, there are deep canyons and imposing as those of Majes, Colca, Sihuas and Ocoña, which can be seen clearly important aspects of the geological evolution of its territory.
In the cista, plateaus and low-lying dunes of the desert are characteristic features of Arequipa. Particularly beautiful are developed and what you see on the pampas of Majes, Sihuas and La Joya.
From the viewpoint hydrographic, rivers draining its territory belong mostly to the Pacific Rim, but there are also some who belong to the hydrographic system of the Amazon.
Among its major rivers are the Ocoña, Yauco, Camana, Quilca. Throughout this department are the headwaters of the Amazon, the largest and laughed throughout our planet.
